crazy plate lady.

January 23rd, 2012 § 1 Comment

As a kid, I remember one of my friends had a huge porcelain doll collection. So I started collecting them. Until my grandparents caught on and that’s all I started getting for every Christmas and birthday. Another friend had the ENTIRE beanie baby collection. So I got some, actually played with them, and damaged the tags. Which is a big no-no apparently. There was also Polly Pocket, Pogs, and Pokemon somewhere in there. I jumped from trend to trend a lot back then. And as a result, none of those collections were really my own.

But now, I am in real danger of becoming a crazy plate lady. I’ll say it loud and proud: I LOVE PLATES!!!!  The past few years or so, I’ve been slowly collecting all different kinds. Small, big, colorful, heart-shaped…anything that catches my attention. Admittedly, most of this impulse-plate-buying occurs at Target. Or thrift shops. But mostly Target. And I love my plate collection so dearly.  Then I had the brilliant idea of creating a plate board on Pinterest. And the addiction grew. Here are some of my favorites:

thought/outfit for the day

I just finished a popular book about life in Jackson, Mississippi in the 1960s as a housekeeper. The hate is unfathomable to me, especially when I realize how RECENT it was. I can’t help but wonder if one day, my children or grandchildren will read a novel about life in America in the 2000s as a homosexual. Will they look up at me with wide eyes and say “Was that really how it was?” Just a thought.

On a lighter note, I am heading off to attend my grandma’s 80th birthday party. Here’s what I’m wearing! (Yay! A *mini* fashion post!)

top: buffalo exchange
jeans: target
shoes: birkenstocks
necklace: gift
ring: frances
earrings: last chance

I went hiking with my mama for her birthday…

I’ve been a smoothie-drinking machine (and I’ve been packing my lunch everyday in my beautiful FP bag)…

I painted my nails GOLD during my two-days-in-a-row-off-work…

I did some much needed shopping…

I worked on a scrapbook celebrating my parents’ 30 year anniversary!

I’ve been constantly looking at this picture and dying of laughter…

I spent some time with Veronica Mars, Mike’s Hard Lemonade and my feet up…

I’ve been going to physical therapy 3 times a week…

I let Henry at Nails by Tina go a little crazy on my toesies…

I also made a paper-cut illustration for my best friend and her husband’s one year anniversary!

I cuddled up with my lover in a cozy corner, watching movies…

I tried to make popcorn but burnt it terribly…

and I logged some hours in bed with my newest book.

What have you been up to lately??

what i’m loving: sandals

May 17th, 2011 § Leave a Comment

It’s that time of year. Phoenix is about to get HOT. Although I am a year-round sandals girl, these coming summer months have me itching for some new kicks. I have plenty of flip flop style sandals, so instead of adding to the collection I’m trying to force myself to try something new in the sandal realm! Here are some that I’m dying to try.

sandals

beginning at top left, moving clockwise:
1. cooperative leather cross strap sandal in green (via urban outfitters), $34
2. birkenstock arizona  sandal in stone birkibuc, $80
3.  jeffrey campbell cayman fabric sandal in multi (via free people), $98
4. bc footwear conch sandal in natural (via nordstrom), $65
5. aldo luthe sandal in cognac, $40

Which sandal trends are you wanting to try this year?
I’m loving feathers, straps and tribal prints.
And I’m over the moon excited that Birkenstocks are becoming trendy again!
